One of the areas that God calls His children to obedience to is serving. You see, church is not just a place where you come to sit. It’s a place that you get to serve God by serving others. Serving strengthens your walk with Christ because serving is about loving. In fact, more than half of the Ten Commandments deal with Loving People, and there are countless passages that instruct us as believers to serve one another.
When you serve and give up your time and energy for someone else, you get emotionally and spiritually recharged. It gives more meaning to your life to be a servant of Christ. It’s also a great way to learn about the way that you have been designed by God. For example, you may find that you love volunteering in children’s ministry or that you are better suited for hospitality. Either way, each time you serve, you are becoming more like Jesus. You see, God sent His son to be the ultimate servant. When you volunteer, you are following the very example Jesus set for us. Putting Him first and people second.
