Three in one

Do you know who you are? As a saved child of God, that is? This may come as a bit of a surprise, but you are a spirit, who has a soul and lives in a body. That’s right. You see, when God created you, He created you to live in two worlds. Not just this world, but also in the world to come. Before you were saved, you had a body (captain obvious, here) and a soul (the part of you that makes up your thoughts, emotions, personality and will). But the spirit part of you was dead even though your body and soul were alive. As a result, you made decisions every day based upon your natural thoughts, feelings and desires. In other words, your body and soul led the direction of your life.

But when you made the decision to accept Jesus as your Savior, your spirit was born again. That means that your spirit, which was dead to the things of God is now alive. Now, rather than being led by your flesh (your wants, desires and wishes) you now have the ability to hear from God and be led by God. That’s an amazing thing because His plans and desires for your life are so much greater than anything we can come up with. When we wake up to the reality that we can now see life through God’s eyes, everything begins to change.

The song Amazing Grace says it best: “Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost, but now, I’m found, was blind but now I see.”

Today, read again John chapter 3 with a specific emphasis on John 3:1-21. Also, consider reading Jeremiah 29:11.
