Becoming Fruity

Fruit is a favorite food group for many people. It’s colorful and comes in a variety of textures and flavors. Even the trees that produce the fruit are pleasing to the eye. Believe it or not, you were created to produce fruit, too. You were created to produce fruit that will be a natural byproduct of your time spent with the Lord. This is called the Fruit of the Spirit. Over time, you will produce love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control.

Does that sound wonderful? Maybe a little overwhelming? Well, here’s the good news. God will help you to produce it. Your job is to spend time with the Lord and while you do, He produces it in you. He puts His finger on moments where you have been angry and shows you that gentleness is a better response. He illuminates in your life moments when you have not demonstrated self-control and leads you in another response. You are now connected to God through His Spirit living in you. Your job is to stay connected to Him. His job is to produce the fruit in you.

Today, read Galatians 5:22-23.
